THANKS JOANNE! The Board of the Miniature Museum of Greater St. Louis wants to take this opportunity to thank our President, Joanne Martin, for all of her work above and beyond . . . She had to meet with contractors, all of the inspectors involved with getting the window enclosed from the drunk driver crash, and getting the garage ready for inspection. She had to be at the museum at 7:30, or earlier in some cases, to let in workers. There is a never ending series of problems to solve at the museum Most members have no idea of what it takes to keep the museum going. In her minimal "spare time," she also organizes the volunteers and when she cannot get a volunteer, she or her husband, Bob, will fill in the empty slots. There is NOTHING that happens in the museum that does not benefit from her active participation. Plus, she makes the volunteer gifts for the shows, runs the shows and the garage sale, and other things too numerous to mention. Thanks, Joanne! Stay well! March 2010 Newsletter Highlights Garage Sale The annual Garage Sale was held March 6th at the Fireman's Hall directly behind the museum. The museum made over $1,500
from the sale. We also had increased sales in the museum gift shop because of
the increased traffic from the garage sale. We want to thank the participants.
We had a great time! Volunteers I want to thank all the wonderful museum volunteers for their help in staffing the museum. I really appreciate your helping me by being so eager to sign up. If anyone not currently volunteering is interested in one or two days a month, I'd certainly appreciate your additional help. Museum Wish List We still need
another vacuum for the second floor. So, if anyone has one sitting around, just
let us know. Exhibits Spring Holidays and Spring Scenes are now on exhibit. We have some exhibits on display that are new to our collection. We recently added some Pete Aquisto silver to our silver collection. We have so many
wonderful pieces that we aren't able to exhibit now, but if everyone will just
be patient, we will eventually get them out. Some dollhouses we received need to
have covers made before they can be exhibited. We have several dollhouses
upstairs waiting for covers. Our volunteers are working as fast as they can to
get things together. Donations We want to thank everyone who made donations to the museum. If you’ve donated something and your name doesn’t appear, please notify Fay (314) 261-7439 and we will rectify this in the next newsletter. Donations of items for the gift shop, books and magazines, dollhouses, furniture and accessories of all kinds were made by: Steve Burns Monetary donations: In memory of Lorraine
Halloran by Mary Wrenn Building Renovation Update The broken window has been bricked in and the exterior is finished. The interior wall is finished and we just have to have electric plugs put in and then that is complete. Hurray! We had a new electric service installed in the garage and we had to have all kinds of inspections to get an occupancy permit. The entire building had to be reinspected. We have a few minor things to correct, but one aspect of the fire inspection was that we have to clean up the basement. All of our dollhouses and roomboxes that we do not have on exhibit are down there, plus supplies and things we have to fix. I did a lot of clearing out of boxes and other stuff, and Linda, Pauline and Fay spent a couple of days going through stuff to clear out the basement. There is still more things to go through, but we are making headway. A lot of the things we were saving went into the garage sale. Now that the garage sale is finished, we can get back to the basement. Joe, O.T. and Dave have been working on building covers for the upstairs exhibits. They were almost ready to start putting the covers together when they had to stop and install exit lights in the garage after the inspection, and numerous other things. So, the covers will have to wait until these things are finished and we have our final inspections. We will have to go through this again when we get ready to open the second floor. Since we only have the three guys volunteering, it takes time to see any of their efforts. If anyone has a free day they would like to donate to help them, they usually work on a Monday. So, give me a call and let me know if you want to help out. Again, I want to thank these gentlemen for all their help. It means a great deal to us and saves the museum a LOT of money. Trip to Arkansas I will be traveling to Arkansas to give a talk about miniatures to a small college there. My niece is involved with this college and invited me to come to spread the word about our museum. I have collected some pictures of our collection and I'm taking some of my miniature creations to show to the people who attend I hope it goes well and the museum will benefit from the publicity Comments or questions: e-mail FZerb@aol.com |
